Have A Goal Or Focus
Get active with a purpose whether it's to run your 1st 5k or be able to get to the top of your office stairs without feeling out of breath is key to helping you stay motivated. No goal is to big or to small and it can help you decide on the action you need to take to get you there. So when you are having a day where you would rather snuggle up on the sofa just remind yourself why you want to do this.
Do Something Fun
Getting active does not have to be boring or remind you of your dreaded school PE lessons of past. So unless you like to train with an army sergeant, fitness does not have to be that way. I always say if you are going to stick to being active on a regular basis you need to find something you enjoy for example you can do a fitness DVD, go dancing, swimming, yoga, for long walks variety is the spice of life so keep your exercise varied so you can keep your body AND mind active.
Let Music Be Your Motivator
When it's is a wet and rainy day outside nothing helps me more than putting on my headphones to get me up and out the door training. My top tip is to choose tracks that really make you want to get up and move and that make you feel great.
Keep It Regular
If over the years you have stopped and started your fitness regime and find it hard to stay consistent my top tip is try and take a different approach. Instead of thinking going to the gym is the only way to stay fit why not set yourself fitness challenges that include your daily routine.
- Running up the stairs in the office or at home
- Going for a walk on your lunch break
- walking to the shops, work or school rather than taking the car
- and on the fun side even going dancing with the girls can be an activity session for you
Love the skin you are in
As mentioned above having a goal is vital for success but having a realistic goal is important for success and sanity. Many of us set high goals and have high expectations of our bodies so remember to be kind. Start your activity at a steady pace and gradually increase, feed your body fuel that will keep it healthy and allow yourself time to rest.
MUSIC FOR FITNESS
Dr Costas Karageorghis is head of the world-renowned music in sport research group at Brunel University in West London. He has spent the last 20 years studying the effects of music in sport and exercise.
Science has revealed four main ways in which music can influence your preparation and running performance:
- Music lowers your perception of effort. It can trick your mind into feeling less fatigued during a workout and also encourage positive thoughts. So you feel less pain and/or happier about the pain you are in!!
- Music with a fast tempo can also be used to pump you up prior to competition or slower music can be used to calm your nerves and focus. It is considered by some athletes to be a legal drug with no unwanted side effects!
- Matching the beat of the music to the tempo of the exercise can also regulate your movement and even reduce the oxygen required during running by up to 6%.
- The rhythmical qualities of music emulate the pattern of some physical skills. Therefore, music can enhance your technique and make you a more efficient athlete.
Your Workout Mix album has been designed to follow a steady curve during each mix.
Although you may not be aware, the track lists are built to increase in both speed and intensity to match that of an effective and safe workout.
Each track is handpicked then extensively tested to ensure it is both motivating and positioned in the right place within the mix to get maximum results.
